xeriscapeXeriscaping or "Zero-Scaping"
Zero versus Xeriscape is a common discrepancy…
Plastic over hard, non-amended soil with rocks over it is an example of ZERO-scape. This is a situation that may look clean and easy maintenance initially, however within months it could be a maintenance nightmare that is now even more expensive to fix. Organic material like dead leaves create areas within the rocks for weeds to grow, the rocks raise the surrounding temperature by absorbing heat, and rock takes a lot of labor to remove. Rocks really limit the aesthetics as well as functionality.
We ‘fix’ these zero interest landscapes all the time and the customer always wishes they had just gone with the initial investment to do it right the first time. Our goal is to create a sustainable landscape using the essential ingredients for a successful, sustainable landscape.

Here are the 7 Xeriscape ™ principals as defined by Denver Water

  1. Planning and Design
  2. Soil Amendment and Preparation
  3. Efficient Irrigation
  4. Plant Choice and Placement
  5. Mulch
  6. Turf Choices
  7. Maintenance

We Appreciate The Denver Water for the term Xeriscape™

Walls & WalkwaysWalls and Walkways
We offer a wide range of Hardscape work - Moss rock walls, flagstone, masonry walls, dry stack as well as patios and specialty hardscapes.
Clay soils = shifting soils. This is a reality here in Colorado. Our walls are carefully engineered to stand up to Colorado’s soil conditions. We build dry stack on top of a thick layer of roadbase to handle shifting conditions.

Water FeaturesWater Features
Ponds and Pondless water features add an aesthetic and tranquil element to your outdoor living space. Whether it is a waterfall, or a trickle from a bubbling fountain, you can escape the moment and rest your eyes.
Pondless options are fantastic for families with children as they still offer the excitement of a waterfall, but instead of a pond area, the water disappears into gravel. These water features provide imaginative stimulation for children as well as invite wildlife into your yard as more creatures find some crucial wetland habitat that is being lost by development. Imagine the excitement – identifying mosquito killing dragonflies, & different bird species.

Kids Play Areas
Integrating your landscape to promote imagination and stimulates natural interaction is a wonderful gift for a child – cut down on time in front of the TV! We try to incorporate and blend elements of nature and function for a diverse play area that is also timeless and enjoyable by all ages.
“Not only does the loss of children's outdoor play and contact with the natural world negatively impact the growth and development of the whole child and their acquisition of knowledge, it also sets the stage for a continuing loss of the natural environment…”
Richard Louve, Last Child in The Woods

Sprinkler Systems
More efficient irrigation is our goal. Make use of ‘Smart Timers,’ and MP Rotators to help prevent over-watering, or watering during a rainstorm. Not only is over-watering wasteful, but it is lethal to drought tolerant plants. Why? Because clay soil holds water and has an lower infiltration rate.
